Venetian Millefiori Tabular Bead (late 1800's)

Found in Mali, West Africa. Made on Murano Island off the coast  of Italy and used for the African trade market. It took many different colors of glass rods to make this millefiori pattern. After the pattern was completed, the glass was sliced apart, then the slices applied to a cobalt glass bead that is then formed into a tabular shape. Quite rare and difficult to find today. No two millefiori beads are alike.
