This phenomenal veil weight crafted by the Tuareg people was fabricated from many layers of different metals: yellow brass, white brass, copper, and silver. Weights such as these are attached to the long end of indigo wraps that Tuareg women wear in order to keep the wind from blowing the fabric off their heads. Veil weights can be as simple as a set of house keys. or as elaborate as the piece pictured here, which is also a status symbol. Though these designs have ancient origins, they could easily be incorporated into a bold and modern piece of jewelry. Using this as a focal pendant would certainly catch people's attention. 9 3/4" x 2"
